“Bunch of animals” is one comment on CPUT strikes in August. What is yours?

How true or not true is this statement really? Especially from my point of view, someone who is also a student at CPUT, whose life, studies and safety is affected by this.

I can say with confidence that I don’t think what the strikers (students) did this time was acceptable at all. The strikers lost all control on how they behaved and on what they destroyed. Really now, what does the cafeteria have do to with the fact that the registration fees are going up, I see absolutely no reason for cleaning out the cafeteria. And why destroy the property, break windows and throw over pot plants. The more you destroy the more we all have to pay for repares.

The strikers was protesting because registration fees is going up but really with the rate of the strikes and the property being destroyed the last four years, what else can CPUT do than increase costs to pay for all the damage done. How can the strikers think that vandalism and destroying is the answer to their problems?

And then in the end, sadly enough…the strikers win…even if they have destroyed everything, planted bombs and threatened lives. They win…what is CPUT going to do about this issue…because this is a problem for CPUT at the moment. CPUT is currently being seen in a very negative light in the public and current students fear for their lives.

My comment on this is: CPUT I demand you to take action and start responding in the correct manner through proper communication, this is unacceptable. I pay a lot of money to study here, I want to feel safe and get the best possible education. CPUT is getting a negative image in the public eye and work place, and all of us students must get work one day on YOUR account. Start taking action because the strikes are getting ridiculously dangerous!
