How do you step from the top of a 100 foot pole?

Climbing a 100 foot pole is hard work, but how do you step from the top of that 100 foot pole.

If I think about this question I see it more figurative than literally, it makes me think about the statement: “The difference between being ordinary and extraordinary.” (unknown) Taking a challenge and making it reality.

It makes me think about the elections…
We have placed them all on a 100 foot poles with all their promises and inspirational logos, but the question is how will they step down from that 100 foot pole, prove themselves and keep their promises once they have been elected.

The faces of the leaders of the different political parties such as: Helen Zille – DA, Jacob Zuma – ANC, Patricia De Lille – ID, etc, are all around our cities and towns on big posters. These posters are about their promises and their way of how they will be leading our country once they have been chosen. All of them have been making all kinds of glamorous promises through the build up of the elections to the public in order to get into the favour of the public and to get the public’s vote.

The next leader will be appointed, that leader would have been chosen and appointed by us, the public. Then what…they will come down from the 100 foot pole and they will have to prove themselves. Will they be able to meet our expectations? That is where the reality strikes…will they take the leadership and make South Africa a better place or will we become the next Zimbabwe?

And what if they are not the chosen one, do they still have power or what was their position actually worth on the 100 foot pole? Do they still have a voice thereafter? The reality in all of this is “it is easier said than done” will they be able to step down from the pole and lead because the climbing up of the pole was hard work but the stepping down is even harder.
